Double Olympic champion Lizzy Yarnold has been named skeleton athlete of the year at the British Bobsleigh and Skeleton Association (BBSA) awards in Bath.

Yarnold, who retained her crown at this year's  Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang, was given the prize following a vote among her coaches and team-mates.

The 29-year-old, the country's most decorated winter Olympian with two gold medals, was in attendance at the ceremony, held at the Bailbrook House Hotel.

Lamin Deen, Ben Simons, Toby Olubi and Andrew Matthews claimed the bobsleigh team of the year award after they clinched the silver medal at the World Cup event in Whistler in November.

The British quartet broke the track record and also hit 97 miles per hour - the highest speed ever recorded in a bobsleigh.

Brogan Crowley picked up the skeleton breakthrough athlete of the year award after winning the overall Europa Cup title in just her second full season.

Crowley enjoyed a successful campaign on the circuit, winning one gold, two bronze and three silver medals.

She also finished fourth or higher at every event held during the season.

Nick Gleeson earned the bobsleigh breakthrough award after he became the Britain’s youngest ever Olympic bobsledder when he competed at Pyeongchang 2018 at the age of 21.
