Tiszaújváros is set to host a semi-final and final format as the International Triathlon Union (ITU) World Cup makes its ninth stop of the season.

Semi-finals are set to take place in the Hungarian city tomorrow, with three taking place for both men and women.

Athletes will have to tackle a swim course of 750 metres, consisting of three laps of 250m each.

They will then ride 20 kilometres on a largely flat route for the bike section of the race, before concluding the race with a 5km run.

The top nine athletes from each semi-final, plus the three next-best times, will make it to the final on Sunday (July 8).

In total 30 men and women will take part in the two finals.

British hopes are expected to be high in the women’s event, with Sophie Coldwell, Lucy Hall and India Lee expected to be in contention.

United States’ Taylor Knibb and Chelsea Burns will also look to make an impact, along with Australia’s Emma Jeffcoat.

Jeffcoat claimed victory in the World Cup event in Chengdu and will be eyeing a repeat in Hungary.

Mexico’s Rodrigo Gonzalez will hope to claim a second win in the men’s World Cup following a triumph in front of a home crowd in Huatulco.

He could be challenge by Hungary’s Gábor Faldum or Bence Bicsák, with the latter seeking to repeat last year's victory in Tiszaújváros.

Kevin McDowell and Tony Smoragiewic will lead the US challenge in Tiszaújváros.
