Holders the United States beat Mali today to make it two wins out of two in Group B at the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Under-17 World Cup in Argentina.

Evan Mobley was the top performer, registering 12 points, nine rebounds and one assist, as the US triumphed 97-40 at the Union Athletic Club in Santa Fe.

In the other match in Group B, Serbia defeated China 73-61.

Both the US and Serbia now have four points each from their opening match and are due to meet in a Group B decider on Tuesday (July 3).

History was made in Group C today with Montenegro overcoming fellow debutants New Zealand 80-56 to claim their first-ever victory at a FIBA Under-17 World Cup.

Captain Jovan Kljajic nailed three three-pointers in scoring 22 points for Montenegro.

He also managed eight rebounds and five assists.

Bojan Tomasevic added 20 points, five rebounds and four assists, while Luka Zivanovic picked up 14 points, four rebounds and five assists.

"This means everything," Kljajic said.

The victory comes a day after Montenegro lost their first-ever game in the event to Canada, who beat Egypt 93-53 today.

Turkey, defeated by US in the 2016 final, bounced back from their loss to Puerto Rico yesterday to edge Australia 81-79 in Group A.

Puerto Rico maintained their perfect start by overcoming the Dominican Republic 84-69.

In Group D, France eased to a 95-54 win over the Philippines and Croatia beat Argentina 74-55.

Action is due to continue on Tuesday with tomorrow being a rest day.
