The Czech Republic inflicted a crushing defeat on Japan as they qualified for the men's semi-finals in style at the World University Floorball Championships in Lodz.

The Czech team thrashed Japan 22-1 to finish top of Group B as the high-scoring action continued at the City Sports Hall.

Finland, who did not play today, have also progressed through to the last four.

In Group A, Switzerland made light work of Singapore, recording a huge 18-0 win to boost their chances of reaching the semi-finals.

Finland's women progressed directly to the semi-finals of the women's event with a 21-1 victory over hosts Poland in Group A.

The result ensure Finland avoided the prospect of a quarter-final and they are due to take on either Sweden or Japan for a place in the final.

The Czech team clinched top spot in Group B after they defeated the Swedish side 7-2.

Poland or Singapore await for the Czech Republic in the semi-finals.

The tournament is due to continue tomorrow with women's quarter-finals and semi-finals and semi-finals in the men's event.
