The North African nation also topped the medal table at last year's edition of the event in the Seychelles and retained their position at the Palais des Sports Hammamet.

Sport and combat events were both contested.

Moroccan winners included Abderrahim El Kars in the men's 68 kilograms, Houcinei El Chakiri in the men's 82kg and Badreddine Diani in the combat 82kg.

They were joined on the top of the podium by women's 68kg competitor Sanaa Mandar, Reda Bertiza in the men's 62kg, Brahim Mouhyi in the men's over-100kg and Leghfiri Bouchaib in the 62kg combat.

Abdelhak Amhidra also won the combat 74kg title for Morocco.

Only two other countries won gold medals - Cameroon and hosts Tunisia.

The Cameroonians topped the podium five times while Tunisia collected two titles on home soil.

These went to Aymen Ayedi in the men's 57kg and Saifallah Messalmi in the combat 68kg.
