United States' men and Canada's women each enjoyed comfortable victories as action continued at the opening Hockey Series leg in Salamanca in Mexico.

The Canadian women, ranked 21st in the world, are favourites for the round-robin tournament at the Cancha de Hockey Siglo XXI.

Twelve different team players managed goals in an 18-2 thrashing of Puerto Rico.

Canada did go a goal down in the first five minutes but never looked back after that.

Stephanie Norlander scored three times while Brienne Stairs and Hannah Haughn managed two each.

It means Canada are joint top of the group with hosts Mexico, who have also won both their matches so far without conceding a goal.

Puerto Rico were also the beaten side in the only men's match today as United States ran out 8-0 winners.

It follows their 19-0 win over Costa Rica and means they also now lie joint-top with the unbeaten host nation.

Panama are facing Costa Rica in the men's tournament and Guatemala in the women's event in the only two games scheduled for tomorrow.
