Brazil’s 14-time Paralympic champion Daniel Dias claimed his second title of the competition on the final day of the World Para Swimming World Series in Sheffield.

The 30-year-old clocked a time of 35.98sec to ensure he finished top of the podium in the men’s 50 metre backstroke event, beating off several other category five swimmers in the process.

Great Britain's Andrew Mullen was just over a second behind in the silver medal position thanks to a time of 37.01 while Hungary's Zsolt Vereczkei completed the podium lineup with a time of 41.31.

Category three swimmer Edenia Garcia made it a Brazilian double in the 50m backstroke by claiming the women’s title in 56.11.

She was followed by two category five swimmers in the form of Great Britain's Tully Kearney, a four-time International Paralympic Committee World Championships gold medallist, and Japan's Mayumi Narita, who posted times of 46.87 and 48.50 respectively.

Aside from these two Brazilian victories, as they have done in previous days, British swimmers again asserted their dominance in home conditions.

This was exemplified by the British clean sweep in the women's 200m freestyle competition.

Kearney led the way thanks to a time of 2:44.73 ahead of Jessica-Jane Applegate and Louise Fiddes, both category 14 athletes, who finished second and third with times of 2:06.56 and 2:10.77 respectively.

The men's 200m freestyle was also won by a British athlete with Thomas Hamer, a category 14 swimmer, coming top of the leaderboard and defending his title with a time of 1:56.99.

Wai Lok Tang of Hong Kong clinched silver in 1:58.22 whilst Hamer's compatriot Jordan Catchpole rounded off the podium with a time of 2:00.08.

Both Wai and Catchpole are category 14 swimmers.

Paralympic champion Aurelie Rivard of Canada, a category 10 swimmer, emerged triumphant in the women's 400m freestyle event thanks to a time of 4:33.68.

Germany's category 12 swimmer Naomi Maike Schnittger and The Netherlands' category 11 swimmer Lesette Bruinsma finished in the silver and bronze medal positions with times of 4:41.01 and 5:17.10 respectively.

There was a surprising result in the men’s 400m freestyle as Dutchman Bas Takken, a category 10 swimmer, defeated Britain's Rio 2016 Paralympic bronze medallist Lewis White, a category nine athlete, to the title thanks to an impressive time of 4:10.49.

White reached the finish line in 4:24.00 with France's Alex Portal collecting bronze in a time of 4:10.79.
