The 19-year-old category eight swimmer posted a time of 1min 08.26 seconds to ensure she clinched gold, breaking the world record in the process.

This was more than enough to beat her compatriot and fellow Paralympic champion Bethany Firth, a category 14 swimmer, who crossed the line in 1:04.74.

Uzbekistan's category 13 swimmer Shokhsan Toshpulatova completed the podium line up thanks to a time of 1:09.30.

Colombia secured a one-two in the men's 50m butterfly thanks to excellent performances from Carlos Serrano Zarate and Nelson Crispin.

Category seven swimmer Zarate came first thanks to a time of 30.36 with category six athlete Crispin claiming silver in 32.07.

Great Britain's Andrew Mullen, a category five athlete, rounded off the podium with a time of 38.07

New Zealand's category 10 swimmer Sophie Pascoe secured silver in 1:04.76 whilst Firth won her second medal of the day by finishing third in a time of 1:06.80.
