Colombia's world 20 kilometres champion Eider Arévalo will be among the men's field when the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Race Walking Challenge season continues in Spanish city La Coruña tomorrow.

Arévalo has been in Spain for two weeks to prepare for the event but was only 12th at this year's World Race Walking Team Championships in Taicang.

He will be challenged by Spain's home athlete Álvaro Martín tomorrow, the defending champion, as well as Japan's Fumitaka Oikawa.

"I'm in very good shape, very similar to last year when I succeeded and look forward to competing on Spanish ground," said Martin.

"It would be fantastic to win again this year although the presence of Arévalo, my Spanish mate Miguel Ángel López, Sweden's Perseus Karlstrom and the Asian contingent won't make it an easy task."

The current leaders of this year's IAAF Race Walking Challenge are Ecuador's Andrés Chocho and Mexico's María Guadalupe González with 25 and 24 points respectively.

In the women's race tomorrow, London 2012 Olympic silver medallist Qieyang Shenjie will be favourite over 20km.

She won the last leg of the series in the Portuguese city of Rio Maior, in rain-swept conditions.

However, Brazil's Erica de Sena is also highly regarded and Spain's María Pérez will carry home hopes.
