The United States Olympic Committee (USOC) will host try-outs this weekend for athletes hoping to one day represent the country at the Olympics.

Anybody can register to take part at the events which will be held at 24 Hour Fitness gyms across the country.

USOC are looking for potential stars in bobsleigh, skeleton, boxing, canoeing, cycling, rowing, rugby and weightlifting.

One winner for each sport will ultimately be selected, earning a space at American national team camps.

Last year's try-outs resulted in two winners - Amanda Alvarez in skeleton and Josh Williamson in bobsleigh.

Williamson has since gone on to win two gold medals at international events.

The initial try-outs will see athletes compete in strength, mobility and endurance tests on Saturday (June 2).

Fifty men and fifty women will emerge from this first phase and will be invited to spend six days at the US Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs.

They will there go through an intensive screening process as well as sports specific training, while having access to experts in sports medicine, science and psychology.

Eight winners will then be picked in each sport, and will all be eligible for financial aid, training and medical support.

The entire process will be filmed for an NBC programme called Scouting Camp: The Next Olympic Hopeful.

Initial try-outs will take place in Dallas, Denver, Hawaii, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Orlando, San Diego, Seattle and San Francisco.
