Arjola Trimi and Simone Barlaam each gained Italian victories in home water at the World Para Swimming World Series-leg in the Lignano Sabbiadoro today.

Trimi, the Paralympic silver medallist, won her favoured 50 metres freestyle event in a format where swimmers across different classifications were ranked by points rather than times.

The S4 swimmer clocked 39.82sec to beat Canada's S10 rival Aurelie Rivard, who scored 984 points due to her lesser impairment despite a faster time of 27.95.

Carlotta Gilli of Italy, from the S13 class, took bronze with 26.94 for 979 points.

Barlaam clocked 25.17 in the corresponding men's event for a huge 1,019 points total.

The S9 swimmer beat Phelipe Andrews Melo Rodrigues of Brazil, a S10 swimmer who was second in 23.81 for 1,007 points, and Belarus' 11-time Paralympic champion Ihar Boki in the S13 category, who amassed 996 points when clocking 23.45.

United States' Rebecca Meyers also triumphed in the women's 400m freestyle elsewhere today.

The S12 swimmer swam 4:26.11 for 984 points.

Xenia Francesca Palazzo of Italy, an S8 swimmer, took silver with 5:02.56 for 939 points.

Rivard took another medal with 4:38.73 for 931 points and bronze.
