Around 300 athletes are due to participate at the World Para Athletics Grand Prix in Nottwil in Switzerland this weekend as competitors continue their preparations for the European Championships and Asian Para Games.

The event, the fifth Grand Prix of the year, begins tomorrow and concludes on Sunday (May 27) at the Swiss Paraplegic Centre.

The competition is considered one of the most enticing for wheelchair racers owing to the quick track at the venue.

More than 30 records have been broken in the past three years at the Nottwil stop on the Grand Prix circuit.

A host of leading names are scheduled to be in action over the three days at the event, including wheelchair star Manuela Schär.

The Swiss favourite is set to battle it out with Australian Madison de Rozario, who will hope to continue her superb season so far after she won the marathon races at the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games and the London Marathon, and American legend Tatyana McFadden in a packed women's T54 category.

De Rozario races in the 800 metres T53 as well as the 1,500m and 5,000m T54.

American Josh Georges has also entered the event and will race against the likes of Thailand’s Paralympic champion Pongsakorn Paeyo in the men's T53 classification.

World and Paralympic champion Marcel Hug will aim to use home advantage in the men's T54.

Belgium’s world and Paralympic champion Peter Genyn goes head-to-head with Finland’s former world and Paralympic champion, Toni Piispanen, over 100m and 200m in the men's T51 category.

The three medallists from the men’s 100m and 200m T34 at the 2017 World Championships - Tunisia's Walid Ktila, Rheed McCracken of Australia and Mohamed Alhammadi of the United Arab Emirates - are also due to line up in Nottwil.
