China qualified two teams for the semi-finals of their home World Cup of Pool in Shanghai today.

Chinese Taipei and defending champions Austria also secured a spot in the last-four.

China "A", seeking to improve upon their bronze medal last year, were given the sternest examination before a thrilling 9-8 victory over Spain.

They will now face Chinese Taipei in a repeat of last year's bronze medal match after the 2015 winners beat reigning second-placed finishers, United States, 9-5.

Austria won 9-3 against The Netherlands in the other half of the draw.

There was also a 9-1 win for China "B" against 2006, 2009 and 2013 champions The Philippines.

Bringing together the world’s best players in 32 two-man teams, the World Cup of Pool is one of nine-ball’s biggest events with a prize fund of $250,000 (£184,000/€209,000).

Action in Shanghai is due to conclude tomorrow, when the semi-finals and final will take place.
