The National Olympic Committee of Cape Verde (COC) has announced the successful hosting of its Sport Festival for Peace.

Several sporting activities were held at the event in the African nation.

It fell under the banner of "Sport for Life" with youngsters from Cape Verde heavily involved.

The Festival's main objective was to "promote a message of peace through sport".

To this end, children were encouraged to get involved with sport.

Filomena Fortes was re-elected as President of the COC in December.

Fortes is now serving another four-year term.

Competition is expected to take place in the village of Santa Maria on Sal island, one of 10 islands which make up Cape Verde.

It was announced last month that 23 sports will feature including beach handball, taekwondo, beach rowing and aquathlon.
