Chinese Taipei had a bad day at the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Lingshui China Masters as both their top seeds, Hsu Jen Hao and Chen Su Yu, experienced shock defeats.

Having come through a taxing opening match in three games, Hsu exited the men’s singles following defeat by compatriot Lin Yu Hsien, also in three games – 22-24, 21-17, 21-4.

Women’s singles top seed Chen Su Yu of Chinese Taipei also made an early exit in her second match.

The 20-year-old world number 85 lost to home player Han Yue, going down in straight games, 22-11, 21-14.

There were further shock in this BWF Super 100 World Tour event at the Agile Stadium due to conclude on Sunday (April 15). 

The women’s singles second seed, Vietnam’s Vu Thi Trang, lost 21-19. 21-23, 21-13 to South Korea’s Ga Eun Kim.

Meanwhile, men’s singles third seed Ihsan Maulana Mustofa of Indonesia was beaten 21-16. 8-21, 21-18 by home player Zhou Zeqi.

There was no faltering, however, for men’s second seed Daren Liew of Malaysia, whose 13-21, 21-17, 21-19 win over South Korea’s Kwang Hee Heo leaves him as the favourite.
