Marcel Hirscher won the overall giant slalom title at the International Ski Federation Alpine World Cup for the fourth time in a row after triumphing at the World Cup Finals in Åre today.

The Austrian legend, already assured as the overall World Cup winner across all disciplines for the seventh consecutive time before today, has been locked in a battle with Norwegian rival Henrik Kristoffersen this season.

He managed to get the better of him again on the Swedish slopes, clocking 2min 13.63sec across his two runs at the season-ending event.

Hirscher, who won two Olympic gold medals at Pyeongchang 2018 last month, has now won the overall giant slalom title five times in all.

His win today was also his 13th of the season, equalling a record set by fellow greats Ingemar Stenmark of Sweden and compatriot Hermann Maier.

Kristoffersen was second today in 2:13.86 as he proved unable to usurp the Austrian.

Victor Muffat-Jeandat of France was third in 2:13.89.

Hirscher has ended the giant slalom standings on 720 points with Kristoffersen on 575 points in second.

In women's action, American Mikaela Shiffrin was another to confirm her dominance as she won slalom gold.

The two-time Olympic gold medallist had already been confirmed as the champion in the discipline for the fifth time and the overall winner for the second time in a row before today's action.

But the 23-year-old still performed in style by clocking 1:46.42 across two runs.

Switzerland's Wendy Holdener was second in 1:48.00 and bronze went to Frida Hansdotter of host nation Sweden in 1:48.01.

The World Cup Final, and the Alpine skiing season, will conclude tomorrow with men's slalom and women's giant slalom.
