Russia took all three gold medals on the first day of the inaugural leg of the International Swimming Federation (FINA) Artistic Swimming World Series being held in Montreuil, near Paris.

In what is the second second staging of the circuit for artistic swimming - the new name adopted by FINA for synchronised swimming -  the first available title in the Maurice Thorez stadium, the solo technical event, went to Varvara Subbotina with a total of 92.4445 points.

Japan’s Yukiko Inui took the silver medal with 89.5690 points and bronze went to Ukraine’s Yelyzaveta Yakhno, who totalled 88.2743.

In the duet technical final, Subbotina successfully paired with the 2017 FINA Best Female Artistic Swimmer, her compatriot Svetlana Kolesnishenko.

Together, they earned the gold medal with 94.6415 points, beating the Jiang sisters - Wenwen and Tingting-  from China, who earned silver with 92.0677 points.

The Japanese duet of Yukiko Inui and Kanami Nakamaki were the bronze medallists with 90.6743 points.

Russia rounded the day off with another gold in the team technical event, totalling 93.6476 points.

They were followed by China, who scored 92.5899 points, and Ukraine, who totalled 89.9400.

The competition in Paris, due to conclude on Sunday (March 11), is scheduled to proceed tomorrow with three more finals - duet mixed technical, team free, and free combination.
