The world number one headed into the final as favourite, which he began to justify by clinching the opening game 11-8 at East Wintergarden in London.

Momen responded in impressive fashion by winning the second 11-7 before a gruelling third game of the match in this PSA World Tour event. 

Both players battled to edge ahead, with ElShorbagy snatching points at the crucial moment to win 12-10.

It left Momen needing to win the final two games of the tie to win the tournament.

He went halfway to achieving the feat by winning the fourth game 11-9, setting up a decider.

ElShorbagy ultimately sealed control of match, the world number one pulling away to triumph 11-8, 7-11, 12-10, 9-11, 11-3.

"This is the best ever match we’ve played against each other and what a venue to play that kind of battle in," said ElShorbagy.

"The crowd have been supporting us all week, they come to support this event every year, so it’s amazing to play such a high quality match like this with Tarek and the crowd made it more exciting for both of us.

"I’m really happy to win this for the first time, I’ve never won this title before and it’s a title that has had a lot of great names win it in the past.

"I’m really glad to put my name on that trophy."

The result continued ElShorbagy’s stunning recent form and extended his winning run to 21 matches.
