The Baton landed on Horn Island, marking the start of a 33-day journey through Queensland.

It is due to visit a total of 83 Queensland communities and set to be carried by over 1,800 Batonbearers before the Commonwealth Games officially get underway with the Ceremony at the Carrara Stadium.

Gold Coast 2018 chief executive Mark Peters carried the Baton off the plane on its arrival on Horn Island, where it was met by a delegation led by Queensland's Commonwealth Games Minister Kate Jones.

Legendary singer-songwriter Seaman Dan, an Indigenous Australian who has won two Australian Recording Industry Association music awards, was the first to carry the Baton on its arrival in Queensland.

It then travelled by ferry to nearby Thursday Island, where a celebratory event to mark the Baton's appearance was held.

Hundreds of people lined the streets as the Baton was carried on the island before it headed to ANZAC Park, where Gold Coast 2018 mascot Borobi was part of the entertainment.

"It’s a great honour for me to be here and acknowledge the traditional owners, past, present and future and pass on our best wishes from the Yugambeh language group who we are doing a lot of work with on the Gold Coast as part of our Reconciliation Action Plan," said Peters.

"The Queen’s Baton Relay has been on a long journey, 288 days overseas engaging with all nations and territories of the Commonwealth, to visiting all states and territories of Australia which is something special but it’s very special to be back in Queensland."

The Baton is next due to travel to Hammond Island.
