Paris 2024 have appointed biathlon superstar Martin Fourcade as President of their Athletes' Commission.

The Frenchman has been confirmed in the role with the first Paris 2024 Board of Directors meeting taking place today in Le Bourget in Seine-Saint-Denis.

He takes up a Board position himself after a superb performance at the Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympic Games last month, where he won three gold medals in the pursuit, mass start and mixed relay.

It took his tally of Olympic golds to five with his total haul of seven medals making him the most successful French athlete at the either the Summer or Winter Games.

Fourcade has also won 11 World Championship gold medals and has clinched the International Biathlon Union World Cup title on the last six occasions.

The 29-year-old appeared at today's meeting, which was chaired by Paris 2024 President Tony Estanguet, via skype.

He will be joined on the Athletes' Commission by four others, with all set to feed into the Paris 2024 decision making process.

Sarah Ourahmoune, a boxer won won Olympic flyweight silver at Rio 2016, will take a seat alongside Paralympic athletics champion Nantenin Keita.

Tennis player Guy Forget and triple Olympic champion sprinter Marie-José Pérec have also been given roles.

"Very happy to officially join the Paris 2024 adventure as a member of the board of directors and chair of the Athletes' Commission," said Fourcade on Twitter.

"I will devote all my energy and Olympic experience to make these Games an unforgettable event."

Others to attend today's Board meeting included Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo, who also sits on the Executive Board alongside the likes of French International Olympic Committee (IOC) members Guy Drut and Jean-Christophe Rolland.

Seine-Saint-Denis was chosen as the location today as a symbolic gesture as it is due to be transformed due to the Games.

Paris was awarded the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games at the IOC Session in Lima on September 13.

It came as part of a historic joint-award, which saw Los Angeles handed the 2028 event at the same time.

Today's meeting was an "opportunity to outline the main priorities of the coming months, until the first visit of the IOC Coordination Commission in June".

"We want to move forward with our five priorities," said Estanguet, a triple Olympic champion in canoeing.

"The experience of the recent Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang reminded us of the importance to anticipate as much as possible in terms of organisation so that we can focus on the experience offered to all participants and on the legacy that the Games will leave behind."
