High seeds eased through the opening rounds of the Professional Squash Association (PSA) Windy City Open at the University Club of Chicago.

Egypt's Nour El Sherbini cruised into the second round of the women's draw at Cathedral Hall, with the tournament favourite brushing aside India's Dipika Pallikal Karthik.

The world number one earned victory in just 20 minutes of play, triumphing 11-5, 11-8, 11-1.

"I've reached the final a couple of times but never won it," said El Sherbini.

"Maybe it's because I always face the same opponent in Raneem El Welily but hopefully this time we can reach the final again.

"I love coming to Chicago and playing at this venue.

"It was a very tricky first round and against Dipika it is always tough so I'm just looking forward to this event and I hope this time it is going to be a good tournament for me."

El Sherbini is now set to meet Olivia Blatchford in the second round, after the American claimed a 13-11, 11-2, 11-8 win over Canada's Samantha Cornett.

Third seed Camille Serme of France was a comfortable 11-1, 11-2, 11-3 winner against Canada's Danielle Letourneau.

Serme will now meet Egypt's Mariam Metwally, who brushed aside India's Joshna Chinappa 11-5, 11-6, 11-4.

World number three Ali Farag progressed to the second round of the men's event, but had to overcome a battling Nicolas Mueller of Switzerland.

Farag edged the opening game of the tie, which helped set the tournament second seed up for an 18-16, 11-4, 11-13, 11-5 victory.

Australia's Ryan Cuskelly will take on Farag in the second round, after he beat France's Lucas Serme 14-12, 11-3, 12-10.

Marwan Elshorbagy was also vicitorious on the opening day, with the fourth seeded Egyptian winning 11-8, 7-11, 11-9, 11-6 against Hong Kong's Leo Au.
