The International University Sports Federation (FISU) has given its backing to an event in Turin aimed at promoting cancer research.

"Just The Woman I Am" will be held in the Italian city, the host of the inaugural Summer Universiade in 1959, on March 4.

Now in its fifth edition, it takes place in support of university research on cancer and is organised by CUS Torino and the Torino University System.

University sport will play a key role this year with a full programme of events due to take place in the city centre.

FISU will be accompanied by the Italian University Sport Federation in promoting the action.

Last year, more than 60,000 people attended the event which took place at Piazza San Carlo.

This included more than 16,000 runners, both men and women, who registered for a non-competitive six kilometeres run and walk.

An area dedicated to women's organisations will be set up this year with a radio DJ set to entertain the crowds.

As well as the 1959 Summer Universiade, Turin also staged the 1970 student event and the winter edition in 2007.

The city hosted the 2006 Winter Olympics and Paralympics.
