Germany secured their first Winter Olympic women's bobsleigh title in 12 years here today when Mariama Jamancka and pusher Lisa Buckwitz held their nerve on the final run at Pyeongchang 2018.

The duo clocked a combined time of 3min 22.45sec across their four runs at the Olympic Sliding Centre.

This proved enough for victory by seven hundredths of a second over United States' world champion Elana Meyers Taylor and new partner Lauren Gibbs.

Meyers Taylor finished in silver medal position for the second successive Games after also doing so at Sochi 2014.

Canada's defending champion Kaillie Humphries had to settle for bronze this time around alongside Phylicia George.

They clocked a cumulative 3:22.89 for bronze.

It marked a third successive Winter Olympic medal for Humphries after victories in Vancouver and Sochi.

The result ended a streak of two medal-less Olympic Games in the event for Germany, ever since Sandra Kiriasis
and Anja Schneiderheinze triumphed at Turin 2006.
