The Netherlands and Germany took the men's and women's team recurve titles at the World Indoor Archery Championships in Yankton.

The Netherlands team, consisting of Sjef van den Berg, Rick van den Ven and Steve Wijler, thrashed Australia by a 5-1 scoreline to claim the men's crown at the NFAA Easton Yankton Archery Complex.

After helping his side claim their first-ever indoor team title, Wijler, who won his first individual indoor title in Nimes last month, said: "We came here with a lot of confidence.

"At first, we thought about getting into the medals and it's awesome to do it.

"To get the gold is really impressive."

Ukraine won the bronze medal with victory over Russia by the same 5-1 scoreline.

Things got even better for 2015 European Games silver medallist Van den Berg has he claimed the individual men's recurve title later in the day with an excellent 6-2 victory over Tomatsu Daisuke of Japan.

His performance included nine consecutive perfect 10 shots.

"I feel really great," he said after collecting his medals.

"I walk away with not only two medals but two gold medals, so that's pretty much the best you can do at the world indoors and I'm super happy with that."

Taylor Worth of Australia claimed bronze with a 6-4 victory against Canada's Crispin Duenas.

Germany pulled off a surprise victory in the women's team recurve final with victory over tournament favourites Russia, who were missing their captain Ksenia Perova.

Elena Richter, Michelle Kroppen and Rio 2016 silver medallist Lisa Unruh had to pull through a tense match to secure their title with three of the sets won by just a single point.

The trio, however, eventually shot scores of 58, 59, 59 and 58 to secure a 5-3 victory overall.

Kroppen could not hide her delight after clinching her first-ever senior gold medal at international level.

"I'm a little bit sick but I'm the happiest girl in the team," she said.

Unruh added: "At the moment it doesn't feel like winning the gold.

"It may take a while to sink in."

As was the case with Van den Berg in the men's, there was double gold for a German archer as Richter secured the individual women's recurve title thanks to a 7-3 win over Aida Roman of Mexico.

"It was a really tough match, I was very weak, I was shaking," Richter said after her victory.

"A double world champion?

"I can't even describe the feeling.

"It’s amazing."

France's Audrey Adiceom claimed bronze by winning a shoot-off 6-5 against Fumiyo Miyaki of Japan after the scores were level at the end of the regulation match.

Tomorrow is the last day of the event with the team and individual finals of the compound competition set to take place.
