The openly-gay 21-year-old has been an outspoken critic of Russia and was among the athletes to urge the IBSF to move the 2017 World Championships from Sochi as punishment.

The IBSF eventually relented under pressure from competitors such as Meylemans and Britain's Lizzy Yarnold, switching the event from the 2014 Winter Olympic host city to Königssee in Germany.

Meylemans told Belgium-based Dutch language newspaper Het Belang van Limburg that Russian athletes had described homosexuality as a "cancer".

The Belgian, who finished 14th in the women's skeleton at the Winter Olympic Games here last night, has insisted she has no intention of competing at any event held in Russia.

"I got threats," Meylemans said.

"‘It is good that you do not come to Sochi, because homosexuality is like cancer and you are ill.’"

The country's controversial stance on gay rights was heavily criticised in before the 2014 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Sochi. 

The build-to February's Winter Olympics was dominated by controversy over a law banning the "propoganda of non-traditional sexual relations" introduced into the Duma - the Lower House of Russian Parliament.

It sparked protests in Russia and in countries across the globe.

"Then you know what kind of big fan I am of that country," added Meylemans.

"If there is a World Cup next year, I will not go."

There are no Russian skeleton athletes competing at Pyeongchang 2018 as Olympic bronze medallist Elena Nikitina and Maria Orlova were among those banned from participating here for their role in the "systematic manipulation" of the anti-doping system at Sochi 2014.
