Mike Schloesser moved to the brink of earning his maiden World Archery Indoor Championships title by reaching the men’s compound final in Yankton.

The Dutch archer was a 2014 world champion at the World Archery Championships and has set his sights on further success in the indoor discipline.

Schloesser came through yesterday’s qualification event in fourth place, behind three American home favourites at the NFAA Easton Yankton Archery Complex.

Having moved through the early rounds today, the Dutchman found himself up against top seed Kristofer Schaff in the semi-finals.

Schloesser saw off the challenge of his American rival in a shoot-off after both men had scored 147 points.

The host nation had the three top seeds but missed out on having an archer in the gold medal match after Jesse Broadwater was beaten in his semi-final by Italy’s Sergio Pagni 149-147.

The women’s compound semi-finals saw Turkey’s Yesim Bostan claim a narrow 148-147 victory over Canada’s Dawn Groszko.

She is now scheduled to take on Russia’s Natalia Avdeeva, who overcame Denmark’s Sarah Sonnichsen 147-143 in her last four tie.

Having set a European record in the men’s recurve ranking round yesterday, Sjef van den Berg backed up his performance in the knock-out phase.

The Dutchman advanced impressively to the semi-finals, where he earned a 7-3 win over Australia’s Taylor Worth.

Japan’s Tomatsu Daisuke is scheduled to provide the opposition in the semi-finals after he triumphed 6-2 over Canada’s Crispin Duenas in his tie.

Daisuke’s team-mate Fumiyo Miyaki missed out on a place in the women’s recurve semi-finals after she fell to a 6-4 loss to Germany’s Elena Richter.

Richter will take on Aida Roman in the gold medal match, the Mexican having beaten France’s Audrey Adiceom 6-2.

Competition is due to continue tomorrow.
