The new event, sanctioned by the World Baseball Softball Confederation, will run between August 28 and September 1 in the Czech capital.

It has been dubbed as the "battle of the continents" with the top ranked men's softball sides from Asia, Europe, Africa, Oceania, North America and South America set to participate.

Czech National Television has been awarded the rights to the tournament which can serve as a test event for next year's World Cup.

"The event is a great opportunity for us," said Waage. 

"As the organiers of the World Cup 2019, we can make sure that everything will work."

World number one side New Zealand will be joined by Japan, Argentina, United States, Denmark and Botswana at the Intercontinental Cup, as well as hosts Czech Republic.
