Group matches concluded at the European Team Badminton Championships with the knock-out line-up completed at the Kazan Gymnastics Centre in Russia.

Defending men's champions Denmark eased into the last eight back by securing three straight 5-0 wins in Group One of the competition.

They are now set to face Finland in the quarter-final stage, with their opponents also boasting an immaculate record to date.

Finland enjoyed 5-0 wins over Turkey, Estonia, Norway and Latvia in Group Seven, the only one to feature five nations.

England, the 2016 silver medallists, swept to their third 5-0 victory in Group Two as they dominated their match with Greenland.

Their quarter-final opponents will be Poland, who followed up their 5-0 win against Italy in Group Six by beating the Czech Republic and Portugal 4-1.

Hosts Russia thrashed Belgium 5-0 to secure their third straight success in Group Four, setting up a clash against France in the last eight.

France proved unstoppable in Group Five, with three 5-0 wins over Ukraine, Austria and Lithuania taking them through.

Germany had assured themselves of a place in the quarter-finals yesterday following an unbeaten Group Three campaign.

They are set to face the Czech Republic, who qualified for the last eight as the best ranked second place team.

The women's quarter-finals will see defending champions Denmark face the challenge of England, with both nations boasting a 100 per cent record to date.

The winners of that tie will meet either hosts Russia or Bulgaria, the 2016 runners-up.

Germany and Spain, who claimed bronze medals two years ago, also advanced to the quarter-finals.

They will take on France and Turkey respectively, with the two teams having qualified as the best ranked second place teams.

The competition will run until February 18 and serves as a qualification event for the 2018 Thomas and Uber Cups.

The African Continental Team Badminton Championships also continued in Algiers today.

Hosts Algeria met Nigeria in the gold medal match of the men’s event, with the two teams having won 3-1 against Mauritius and Ghana in their respective semi-finals.

Algeria were too strong in the final, as they triumphed 3-1 over Nigeria.

The host nation were beaten 3-2 in the women’s semi-finals by Mauritius, with Nigeria replicating the score in their win over Egypt.
