Albegov, an Olympic bronze medallist at London 2012, was provisionally suspended by the IWF on suspicion of doping back in November.

His compatriot Chen, a two-time European champion, was then suspended in January.

Both weightlifters were charged with a violation of Article 2.2 of the IWF Anti-Doping Policy.

Article 2.2 relates to use or attempted use by an athlete of a prohibited substance or a prohibited method.

Implication in the World Anti-Doping Agency-commissioned McLaren Report, as an athlete involved in the submission of "disappearing positives", was suggested as a possibility for the suspensions.

Their lawyer Artyom Patsev was involved in the appeals of 39 Russian athletes to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) against sanctions imposed by the International Olympic Committee over doping offences at Sochi 2014.

A total of 28 athletes had their sanctions overturned and life bans from the Olympic Games annulled, while 11 saw their appeals partially upheld by CAS.

Patsev has now claimed the provisional suspensions have been lifted against Albegov and Chen.

"Specialists of the legal group Clever Consult have made a withdrawal of the temporary suspension of Russian weightlifters Ruslan Albegov and Oleg Chen, accused of violating the anti-doping rules based on the documents attached to the report of Richard McLaren," Patsev wrote on the legal firm's website.

"The temporary suspension was imposed by the IWF as part of the ongoing investigation.

"The arguments presented by Clever Consult could convince the IWF of the injustice of the imposed temporary suspension and the need for its cancellation.

"Experts Clever Consult will continue to protect the interests of Russian athletes.

"In the meantime, congratulate the guys with the opportunity to return to full-fledged training and competition after three months of forced interruption."

Albegov finished third in the over-105 kilograms heavyweight category at London 2012 behind Iranian duo Behdad Salimi and Sajjad Anoushiravani.

He is also a two-time world champion in 2013 and 2014 and a double European gold medallist in 2012 and 2013, as well as a Summer Universiade winner in Kazan in 2013.

Albegov had been the only male Russian weightlifting medallist from London 2012 not to have already been barred for doping.

Apti Aukhadov and Aleksandr Ivanov have each been stripped of their respective silver medals in the under-85 and 94kg divisions after each failed tests for anabolic steroids following re-analysis of frozen samples in 2016.

Chen was winner of the men's under-69kg European titles in 2013 and 2014 and is a triple world silver medallist.

The Russian team missed Rio 2016 due to repeated doping offences.

The country - along with Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, China, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Turkey and Ukraine - are serving a 12-month competition suspension, imposed by the IWF, for having three or more positives in the retesting of samples from Beijing 2008 and London 2012.
