Thong Khon has been re-elected President of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC) to serve a fresh four-year term.

The 66-year-old was chosen for another mandate unopposed at the NOCC's General Assembly in Phnom Penh.

Vath Chamroeun, a wrestling Olympian, was re-elected secretary general of the organisation.

Khon, the Minister of Tourism, and Chamroeun will serve in their respective roles through to 2022.

Representatives from 39 affiliated NOCC federations took part in the electoral process to finalise the new Executive Committee during the meeting.

Chea Bora and Meach Sophana replaced Nuth Saan and Rat Sokhon as Executive Committee members following their respective resignations.

The other key topic on the agenda at the General Assembly was the 2023 Southeast Asian Games, which Cambodia is due to host for the first time in its history.

Cambodia was confirmed as hosts of the event, which is due to feature 11 nations from across the region, back in 2015.

An update on preparations was given to the membership at the meeting.

"Continuity is vital for building up the momentum as we stake our national pride on the smooth and successful conduct of the Southeast Asian Games and achieve the strategic goals we are setting out for in the next five years," Khon said.

Organising Committee President Tea Banh, Cambodia's Deputy Prime Minister, thanked participants for their feedback during the Assembly, where the "logistical road-map" for the event was laid out.

"I highly appreciate the efforts of the NOCC, the Ministry of Sport, national federations and organisations related to sport," said Banh.

"They all promote Cambodian sport to the world.

"We must work together.

"We must keep our national prestige in mind."
