Rostock has been selected as the host of the 2019 International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) Goalball European A Championships.

Competition in the German city is set to prove crucial for participating countries, with the event acting as a qualifier for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.

It will be one of four regional qualification events for the Games, with the winners ensured of a place in Tokyo.

Hosts Japan, the top three nations at the World Championships and four regional qualifiers will take eight places at the Paralympics in men's and women's competitions.

The highest two ranked teams in both the men’s and women’s world rankings, who are yet to qualify, will take the final two places.

The regional qualifier in Rostock is scheduled to take place from October 5 to 14 next year.

Paralympic champions Lithuania won the men's European title last year, while Russia secured women's honours.
