Belgium's Arthur Van Doren scooped both the men's player of the year and rising star of the year prizes at the Hockey Stars Awards in Berlin.

Van Doren, a member of the Belgian team which claimed the silver medal at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, came out on top in the voting for both awards.

The 23-year-old, a European Championships silver medallist in 2017, had never won the main award but retained the rising star of the year prize at a glittering ceremony at the stilwerk Berlin.

Delfina Merino of Argentina was voted the women's player of the year, while compatriot Maria Jose Granatto was named the women's rising star for the second consecutive edition of the International Hockey Federation's (FIH) flagship awards.

British star Maddie Hinch was another to seal back-to-back success as she was named female goalkeeper of the year.

The men's keeper award went to Vincent Vanasch as he added to the Belgian haul of awards.

A vote among the players and an online poll involving fans were used to determine the winners of the player, rising star and goalkeeper of the year awards.

Australian legend Alyson Annan clinched the women's coach of the year prize after guiding The Netherlands to the Hockey World League and EuroHockey Championship titles.

Argentina's Max Caldas, who helped the Dutch men claim the continental crown, and New Zealand's Shane McLeod, the Belgium manager, shared the men's coach of the year award.

"Tonight's winners should feel incredibly proud of their achievements," FIH President Narinder Batra said.

"Being named as the best in the world by peers and fans is the result of years of hard work, determination and sacrifice - attributes that have driven them to the top of the game.

"In return they have not only earned success on the field, they have also played an incredibly important role in inspiring future generations.

"On behalf of the FIH and the hockey family, we offer our sincerest of congratulations and look forward to seeing them build on their success for many years to come."
