Tokyo 2020 has today announced Hisamitsu Pharmaceutical as an official partner, under the category of "External Pain Relief Products".

Its addition brings the total number of Tokyo 2020 domestic partners to 48, including 15 gold partners, 30 official partners and three official supporters.

Hisamitsu Pharmaceutical has been engaged in the pharmaceutical industry since 1847 and has become one of Japan’s leading companies and health campaigners through providing medicines, in particular external pain relief patches.

It is claimed the patches can be easily applied to the body to provide relief, can improve administering of drugs and help to deliver a better quality of life.

Hisamitsu Pharmaceutical says this is a feature of Japan’s therapeutic culture that it is proud to expand to the world.

The company’s mission is to "promote the benefits of patch treatment to the world" and its corporate philosophy, focusing on global expansion, is to "deliver a better quality of life to the world".

"I am delighted to welcome Hisamitsu Pharmaceutical as a Tokyo 2020 official partner," Tokyo 2020 President Yoshirō Mori said.

"Hisamitsu Pharmaceutical’s external pain relief products and other goods have been helping ensure healthy and comfortable lifestyles in Japan for many decades.

"The company is additionally a firm supporter of Tokyo 2020 athletes and stakeholders, and I am confident that they will continue their support and contribute further towards the Olympic and Paralympic Movements."

Kazuhide Nakatomi, President and chief operating officer of Hisamitsu Pharmaceutical, added: "We are honoured to have become an official partner of the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020.

"Hisamitsu Pharmaceutical is now a Tokyo 2020 official partner, aiming to introduce our company mission, 'promoting patch treatment worldwide', to all the people who will be gathering in Tokyo in 2020 from around the world.

"By supplying products in our contracted category, we hope to help promote the Olympic and Paralympic Movements and contribute to the success of the Tokyo 2020 Games."

The Olympic sponsor programme is divided into four separate categories, with The Olympic Partner (TOP) programme constituting the very highest level.

The worldwide TOP Partners who support the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 are Coca-Cola, Alibaba, Atos, Bridgestone, Dow, GE, Intel, Omega, Panasonic, Procter and Gamble, Samsung, Toyota and Visa.

The three remaining categories are designated for domestic sponsors.

The highest domestic tier comprises gold partners, the second tier consists of official partners and the third tier is made up of official supporters.

Last month, human resource company Pasona Group Inc. became Tokyo 2020's 47th domestic partner.

It will aim to provide "expert services", including temporary staffing, human resources consulting, education, training, overseas global sourcing and career solutions such as placement, recruiting and outplacement.
