Austria claimed gold in the 4x5 kilometre Nordic combined team competition at the International Ski Federation (FIS) Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in Kandersteg.

The Austrian team, consisting of Johannes Lamparter, Florian Dagn, Dominik Terzer and Mika Vermeulen, put in an excellent performance in the jumping round, giving them the platform to clinch the top prize at the Swiss resort.

Terzer particularly impressed with his jump, which was rewarded with 107.8 points, leading to his team earning 383.0 total jumping points.

The quartet then completed the overall 20km race in an overall time of 56mins 33.0 secs in their four separate races.

Germany took silver but were still some way off the winners with a time of 56:30.8 while Norway took bronze in a time of 58:10.2.

Also in Kandersteg, Marius Lindvik of Norway took the individual normal hill ski jumping gold medal with a points total of 291.4 after two jumps, including the longest jump of the day at an incredible 108.5 metres.

Germany's Constantin Schmid was almost ten points behind Lindvik on 282.1 with Austria's Clemens Leitner taking bronze with a total of 267.1 points.

There was more success for Norway in the men's junior cross-country skiathlon event in Goms, with Norwegian athletes taking all three spots on the podium.

Harald Amundsen came first in 58:45.7 with compatriots Jon Rolf Hope and Joergen Lippert 34.7 seconds and 1:00.1 behind, respectively.

Sweden's Frida Karlsson took gold in the women's competition thanks to a time of 32:55.7.

Norway's Lone Johansen was 35.5 seconds behind in silver with Hailey Swirbul of the United States just 0.7 seconds behind her in the bronze medal position.
