Argentina's women's team booked their place in the BNP Paribas Wheelchair World Team Cup Finals by winning their qualifiying event in Orlando.

With only Argentina and Colombia vying for the berth, the two teams would go head-to-head in a best of three competition.

Having won the opening clash 2-1 yesterday, Argentina put themselves in pole position to qualify for the finals in Apeldoorn in The Netherlands.

Johana Martinez attempted to boost Colombia's hopes of a revival, as she triumphed 6-2, 6-4 over Antonella Pralong in the first singles match at the United States Tennis Association National Campus.

It proved only a short-lived lead for Colombia, after Angelica Bernal fell to a 6-1, 6-1 loss in the second tie.

A closely fought doubles match ended with a 6-2, 6-7, 10-3 victory for Argentina, with their triumph on a match tiebreak sealing a 2-0 success over Colombia and a place in the World Team Cup Finals.

The round-robin stage of the men's tournament drew to a close with Chile and the United States advancing to a play-off for the Americas place in Apeldoorn.

Having lost to Chile yesterday, the US required a victory over Ecuador to ensure their place in the play-off match.

The hosts were able to achieve the feat in style, with Chris Herman beating Eduardo Lopez 6-2, 6-1 in the first singles match, before Casey Ratzlaff won 6-0, 6-1 against Francisco Beltran.

Herman and Ratzlaff added further gloss to the result by winning the doubles match 6-1, 6-1 to complete a clean sweep.

Chile will meet the US in the play-off, after they completed the round-robin stage with a 100 per cent record.

They appeared on course for a defeat against Colombia when Jaime Sepulveda fell to a 6-2, 6-2 defeat to Eliecer Oquendo.

Chile's Alexander Cataldo got his team back on level terms by losing only one game in a straightforward win over Manuel Sanchez.

Cataldo and Francisco Cayulef won the doubles for Chile, winning the contest 6-7, 7-6, 10-8.

The winners of the men's and women's events at each of the four regional competitions will earn qualification for their respective events at the 2018 BNP World Team Cup.

The event is due to take place in Apeldoorn from May 28 to June 3 and will be hosted by the Royal Dutch Lawn Tennis Association.

African qualification is scheduled to place at the Nairobi Club in Kenya and the Asian qualification event will once again be held at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association in Colombo.

The four regional events then conclude with the European qualifications, set to be held for the second successive year in Vilamoura in Portugal, organised by the Federacao Portuguesa de Tenis.
