Oliver and Susannah Leydon-Davis have been selected by New Zealand this year's Commonwealth Games in the Gold Coast.

The brother and sister will compete in the mixed doubles event, as they did at Glasgow 2014 where they finished 17th.

Oliver also competed at Dehli 2010 where he finished fifth in the men’s doubles.

Susannah described how the pair have progressed through the ranks.

"Oliver joined the Hamilton junior club, and it wasn't long before being on the sidelines watching him was a thing of the past for me," she said.

"We both progressed through the junior squads here at Waikato, before representing the New Zealand team both as juniors and at senior events.

"It’s pretty special being able to tour together but like any partnership, you need to work to build it.

"We just finished another tour on the circuit leading up to Christmas and it’s quite special being able to share these experiences as brother and sister."

Oliver is based in Denmark where he plays professionally.

"To have the opportunity to compete for New Zealand at the Commonwealth Games is something I dreamed about as a kid," he said.

"I'm looking forward to competing knowing I’ve done everything I can throughout my career to put in the best possible performance at the Games."

The pair are due to compete in the North Harbour International this week before playing together at the Oceania Championships in their hometown of Hamilton next week.

Both tournaments will be valuable warm-up events for Gold Coast 2018, due to take place between April 4 and 15.

The naming of the Leydon-Davis siblings on the team takes the current number of athletes selected to represent New Zealand at the Commonwealth Games to 75.
