Shigemoto served as an elite athlete, an Olympic team manager and a director of coaching administration before becoming chief operating officer.

She took on her current job at the governing body in 2013 but will now return to Texas from the orgainsation's base in Colorado Springs.

"My decision to leave USA Judo and return to Texas is bittersweet," said Shigemoto. 

"Judo has played a major role in my life for as long as I can remember and I look forward to remaining involved in a volunteer capacity. 

"As I contemplated life entering the New Year, I felt the time was right to return to my home state and spend more time with my daughters and the rest of my family and friends. 

"I can leave knowing I always gave my best for the sport and I believe the organisation is on a good path for a successful future."

Keith Bryant, USA Judo's chief executive, paid tribute to Shigemoto.

"I am extremely grateful to Corinne for her commitment to USA Judo and helping me get acclimated during my first one-and-a-half years," he said. 

"I don't think most people understand that, without Corinne's dedication to handling finances for the organisation in the absence of a chief financial officer, USA Judo would have faced an extremely dire situation.

"I hope the USA Judo community will recognise the contributions Corinne has made over the years and join me in wishing her well as she moves back to Texas to reconnect with her family."

Shigemoto is due to leave her role in March following the USA Judo Youth National Championships.

Membership services coordinator Cory Sanders also left the organisation this month.
