Nigeria recovered from the brink of defeat to beat Angola in extra-time and reach the semi-finals of the African Nations Championship in Tangier today.

Angola had taken the lead at the Stade Ibn Batouta courtesy of forward Vladimir Etson Antonio Felix after half-time.

But then Anthony Okpotu drew the scores level with moments left in the 91st minute of normal time.

Gabriel Okechukwu scored what proved to be the winning goal early in the second period of additional time.

It means that Nigeria will progress to a semi-final against Sudan.

Libya became the third North African country to reach the semi-finals this evening by winning a penalty shootout 5-3 against Congo.

It followed a 1-1 draw after extra time at the Stade Adrar in Agadir.

Saleh Taher Saeid had put Libya in the lead before a Junior Makiesse Mouzita equaliser before half-time.

They will now face hosts Morocco for a place in the final.

Both semi-finals are due to take place on Wednesday (January 31).

The final will then be held to conclude the competition on Sunday (February 4).
