A competition has been launched to find six people to work as part of the wider New Zealand team at this year's Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast.

The New Zealand Olympic Committee (NZOC) and ANZ, the major sponsor of the country's Commonwealth Games squad, is looking for people in a variety of roles, including team assistants and social media support at ANZ New Zealand House.

Winners will get the chance to be a part of the New Zealand delegation at the Games in the Australian city, scheduled to take place from April 4 to 15.

They will attend the athletes welcome function, return home on the team plane and attend other official events during the Games.

The prize also includes 15 nights paid accommodation and NZ$2,000 (£1,000/$1,400/€1,100).

"The Commonwealth Games connect communities up and down New Zealand as we support our athletes,” NZOC chief executive Kereyn Smith said.

"For ANZ to be giving everyday Kiwis the chance to get close to the action and help support the team, is fantastic.”

Double Olympic rowing gold medallist Eric Murray, an ambassador for ANZ, said the competition would "create a unique way for New Zealanders to be able to connect with the team".

"Athletes can’t succeed on their own and rely on help from many others, so those prize winners selected will have a really important job, and get to live and breathe the excitement of the Games," the 35-year-old added.

The competition is open to New Zealanders who are over the age of 18.

Shortlisted entrants will go through an interview process, with the winners due to be announced in mid-March.
