Taekwondo Canada's Barbara Marian has been appointed as a member of the Women in Taekwondo Committee.

Marian currently serves as the interim referee chair of Taekwondo Canada, but has now taken up an international role.

She was appointed to the Women in Taekwondo Committee by World Taekwondo President Chungwon Choue.

Marian will now serve a term of two years, which will conclude at the end of the Manchester 2019 World Taekwondo Championships.

"I'm honoured, humbled and thrilled," said Marian.

"I am looking forward to sinking my teeth into my first assignment."

The Committee consists of seven women, with Maria Rosario Borello Castillo serving as its chair.

Castillo is a World Taekwondo Council member and is the current President of the Guatemala Taekwondo Federation.

The Women in Taekwondo Committee will meet at least once every three months, with the governing body claiming its members boast a range of skills to support the development of the sport.

The Committee will discuss issues such as World Taekwondo branding and visibility, as well as the oversight of the governing body's communication strategy.

Best practice studies will also be assessed by the body.
