Germany’s Anna-Lena Forster took the gold medal in the women’s slalom sitting at the World Para Alpine Skiing World Cup as action resumed in Veyzonnaz.

World Para Alpine Skiing had been forced to cancel racing on the previous two days at the Swiss venue due to high winds and heavy snowfall.

Forster, a double Paralympic silver medallist at Sochi 2014, recorded a total time of 1min 38.30sec to take the top prize ahead of pre-race favourite Claudia Loesch of Austria, who finished more than five seconds behind the winner.

Japan’s Momoka Muraoka collected the bronze medal.

"It was not easy so I am happy because of the result," Forster said.

"It was very tough.

"I think slalom is not Loesch’s best event so it was my opportunity to beat her."

The men’s equivalent was won by France’s Frederic Francois, who followed up his maiden World Cup win in Zagreb earlier this season with victory in Veyzonnaz.

Fracois recorded a time of 1:29.56, which was just about enough to beat Igor Sikorski of Poland, who finished just 0.08 seconds behind.

The Netherlands Jeroen Kampschreur, who is still without a World Cup win this season, came third.

There was a surprise in the men’s standing event as Jamie Stanton of the United States defeated in-form neutral athlete Aleksei Bugaev, winner of five World Cup events this season, thanks to a time of 1:29.86.

The Russian's two runs totalled 1:30.54, enough to pinch silver ahead of Thomas Pfyl of Switzerland.

There were no shocks in the women’s event, however, as France’s Marie Bochet, winner of four gold medals at Sochi 2014, claimed her ninth World Cup victory with a time of 1:41.38.

She finished almost three seconds ahead of Stephanie Jallen of the US who collected silver, while Germany’s Andrea Rothfuss completed the podium line-up.

The favourite also took the top prize in the women’s visually impaired event as Henrieta Farkasova of Slovakia picked up her eighth victory of the season in a time of 1:38.78.

Great Britain’s Menna Fitzpatrick and Australia’s Melissa Perrine completed the top three.

The men’s visually impaired was won by three-time world champion Giacomo Bertagnolli of Italy, who claimed his second World Cup win of the season with a time of 1:29.69.

He was followed by Paralympic champions Mac Marcoux of Canada and Spain’s Jon Santacana, who claimed the silver and bronze medals respectively.

The next World Cup event is due take place in Tignes in France, from January 21 to 26.
