A search for new representatives to serve on the British Paralympic Association (BPA) Athletes' Commission has been launched.

The Commission, established in 2013,  is vital to ensuring the athlete voice is heard and plays a significant role in shaping ParalympicsGB planning for Winter and Summer Games, it is claimed.

There are five places available as a number of Commission members have completed their statutory four-year terms and nominations are now open.

The BPA will appoint three current Paralympians and two who have retired.

Current members of the BPA Athletes' Commission include Paralympic gold medallists Tom Aggar and Helene Raynsford from rowing and Sophie Christiansen from dressage.

"The Athletes’ Commission is fundamental to the BPA ensuring that athletes are central to the strategy and planning of the organisation," he said.

"You can make a significant difference as a member and I would urge athletes to consider putting themselves forward."

Candidates for this crucial role have to be aged 18 or over, a Paralympian who competed not more than 12 years from their year of election and have never been sanctioned in relation to the World Anti-Doping Code.

The BPA Athletes' Commission seeks to represent a balance of summer and winters sport, male and female athletes and a range of impairment groups.

The deadline for applications is January 26 with shortlisting and voting concluded by February 18.

Successful applicants are due to begin their new role with an induction in March.
