Towhid Hridoy's hundred and a five-wicket haul from Afif Hossain inspired Bangladesh to their second victory of the International Cricket Council Under-19 World Cup as they beat Canada by 66 runs in New Zealand.

Hridoy produced a superb innings of 122 to help Bangladesh post a total of 264-8 in the Group C encounter at the Bert Sutcliffe Oval in Christchurch.

Bangladesh were initially struggling at 29-2 following the loss of two quick wickets before Hridoy's introduction swung the match in their favour.

Canada, however, felt confident of chasing down the required target of 265 when they began their reply despite the tricky conditions.

Bangladesh had other ideas as their disciplined bowling kept the pressure on Canada throughout.

Canada failed to score a boundary between the sixth and the 21st overs, which dashed their hopes of victory.

Hossain spearheaded the Bangladesh attack, taking 5-43 from his 10 overs as Canada were bowled out for 198.

In the other match in Group C, England got their campaign off to a winning start with an eight-wicket thrashing of Namibia at the John Davies Oval in Queenstown.

Namibia lost wickets at regular intervals as they were unable to build any momentum, eventually completing their innings on 196-9.

Shaun Fouche top-scored with 44, while Luke Hollman was the pick of the English bowlers as he claimed 3-41.

England's performance with the ball gave them a reasonably comfortable target to chase and their victory charge was led by the unbeaten pair of Will Jacks and Harry Brook.

Jacks scored 73 from 44 delivers, while Brook chipped in with 59 from 48 to guide England to a straightforward win.

The tournament continues tomorrow as Pakistan play Ireland and India entertain Papua New Guinea.
