India, South Africa and Sri Lanka each enjoyed victories today at the International Cricket Council Under-19 World Cup in New Zealand.

The Indians proved far too strong for Australia in their opening match of the competition in Group B at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui.

Captain Prithvi Shaw hit 94 while Manjot Kalra and Shubham Gill managed respective scores of 86 and 63 in a total of 328-7 from their 50 overs.

Kamlesh Nagarkoti and Shivam Mavi then claimed three wickets each as Australia were bundled out for 228 in 42.5 overs.

Opener Jack Edwards managed a top score of 73 for the beaten side as they lost by 100 runs.

South Africa also managed far too many first innings runs for Kenya to deal with at Lincoln Green in their Group A clash.

They scored 341-7 largely thanks to a 121-ball 143 from Raynard van Tonder.

Kenya could only manage 172-7 in response as they slid to a 169 run defeat.

Sri Lanka beat Ireland by seven wickets in today's other match in Group D at the Cobham Oval in Whangarei.

Kamindu Mendis took 3-35 as Ireland were held to 207-8.

Sri Lanka chased the total in just 37.3 overs as Dhananjaya Lakshan scored an unbeaten 101.
