The World Curling Federation (WCF) have confirmed the schedule of the 2018 World Men’s Curling Championship in Las Vegas.

Scheduling was determined after Canada came through as winners of the Americas Challenge event.

It was the first time Canada faced a challenge for the place, the second of two spots on offer in the Americas Zone.

Under the WCF qualifying system, the second ranked team in the Americas Zone from the previous World Championships - provided they are not the next hosts - are subject to challenge from other countries from the region.

Due to the United States hosting the World Championships, they received the guaranteed place for the zone.

It left Canada facing the prospect of a challenge, with Brazil having opted to go head-to-head for the final spot.

As Canada are the record 38-time winners of the World Championships, Brazil were unlikely to succeed in their bid.

As it transpired Canada’s representative team led by Glenn Howard comfortably won the tie at London in Ontario, with the hosts winning the opening game 15-1, before triumphing 8-3 and 6-3 to wrap up a 3-0 win in the best of five event.

They will now appear at the first edition of the Championships to feature 13 teams.

Canada will feature alongside hosts the United States, as well as Pacific-Asia Curling Championship qualifiers China, Japan and South Korea.

Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Russia, Scotland, Sweden and Switzerland have qualified for the event via the European Curling Championships.

Competition is scheduled to take place between March 31 and April 8 at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas.

Round robin action will take place until April 6, with the semi-finals scheduled for the following day.

Both the gold and bronze medal matches will take place on April 8.

Canada are the defending champions, having beaten Sweden 4-2 in the 2017 final in Edmonton.
