Olympian Winston Hill is among three boxers to have confirmed their place on Fiji's team for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.

Hill, who competed in the men's welterweight event at Rio 2016, is joined by Jone Koroilagilagi and Josefa Ravudi.

Fiji boxing coach Pauliasi Ratu was reported as saying by the Fiji Sun Online that the country will also have a seven-member B-team, which will be training with the trio at a camp next month.

Hill, a silver medallist at the 2015 Pacific Games, will contest the 69-kilograms category, while Koroilagilagi and Ravudi will be vying for success in the 64kg and 74kg divisions respectively.

At last month's Pacific Mini Games in Vanuatu's capital Port Vila, Fiji managed a boxing medal haul of just two bronzes.

They were won by Hill and Jone Davule at welterweight and light welterweight respectively.

Ratu said a lengthy discussion was held during the review of Fiji's Pacific Mini Games performance.

"They (the boxers selected for Gold Coast 2018) all know their weaknesses, but one thing is for sure they need to be working hard on improving on where we left off after what happened at the Pacific Mini Games in Port Vila," Ratu was reported as saying by the Fiji Sun Online.

"One thing we will be looking into is the changing of our training times and ensuring optimum rest for our boxers after training."

One of Fiji's three Commonwealth Games gold medals won to date came in boxing, thanks to Fine Sani's light heavyweight triumph at the Brisbane 1982 edition.

The Gold Coast 2018 Queen's Baton visited Fiji for two days of celebrations in November as part of its tour of Oceania.

The Baton was welcomed by the Minister for Youth and Sports, Laisenia Tuitubou, and Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee President Joe Rodan.

Having not travelled to Fiji in the build-up to the Delhi 2010 and Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, it was the first time the country has hosted the Baton since it toured en-route to Melbourne 2006.

Fiji did not participate at Delhi 2010 due to the country being suspended from the Commonwealth at the time.

The suspension also prevented them from being visited during the Glasgow 2014 Baton Relay, however they competed at the Games due to the sanction being lifted in time.

Gold Coast 2018 is scheduled to take place from April 4 to 15.

Boxing competition is due to run from April 5 to 14, with one rest day on April 12.

It will be held at Oxenford Studios.
