The final group matches were played at the 2017 Badminton World Federation (BWF) Super Series Finals at the Hamdan Sports Complex in Dubai today, meaning tomorrow's semi-final line-up is now complete.

The men's singles draw saw number one seed Son Wan-ho of South Korea book his place in the last four following a 13-21, 22-20, 21-15 victory over Hong Kong Open winner Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia.

Despite his loss, Lee still finishes top of Group A and also qualifies for the semi-finals.

Interestingly, he is set to play Son once again, so he will be looking to take revenge.

Rio 2016 Olympic bronze medalist and world champion Viktor Axelsen, who had to withdraw from the last BWF Super Series event in Hong Kong with a toe infection, beat Chou Tien-chen of Chinese Tapei 21-16, 14-21, 21-15 to book his place in the final four as Group B runner-up.

The 23-year-old from Denmark will now face Shi Yuqi of China, who won the group.

Shi secured his place by beating India's Srikanth Kidambi, who, despite being seeded second for the tournament, has failed to qualify from the group stage.

The Chinese player won 21-17, 19-21, 21-14.

Thailand's Ratchanok Intanon finished top of Group B in the women's singles despite a 21-18, 13-21, 21-18 defeat against Chen Yufei of China.

Chen is also through to the semi-finals, where she will face Rio 2016 silver medalist PV Sindhu of India.

Intanon's opponent will be Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi, who finished second in Group A despite losing to Sindhu earlier today, 21-9, 21-13.

Men's doubles top seeds Marcus Fernaldi Gideon and Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo of Indonesia made it through to the semi-finals thanks to a victory over Chinese pairing Li Junhui and Liu Yuchen.

They had lost the first game 21-19 but managed to recover to secure the match 2-1, thanks to 21-16 and 21-18 wins in the final two games.

The Indonesians, who have won the last two BWF Superseries events, will now face Takeshi Kamura and Keigo Sonoda of Japan, who beat Danish duo Mathias Boe and Carsten Mogensen 21-18, 21-13 to book their place in the last four.

Despite this defeat, London 2012 silver medalists Boe and Mogensen will also make a semi-final appearance where they will face fourth seeded Chinese pairing Liu Cheng and Zhang Nan.

A Danish pairing will also appear in the women’s doubles semi-finals as, despite losing 21-12, 21-12 to Japan’s Yuki Fukushima and Sayaka Hirota earlier in the day, Kamilla Rytter Juhl and Christinna Pedersen will face Shiho Tanaka and Koharu Yonemoto of Japan.

Fukushima and Hirota, who won silver at the 2017 World Championships in Glasgow, Scotland, will face 2012 world junior silver medalists Huang Yaqiong and Yu Xiaohan of China.

Tanaka and Yonemoto beat last year's tournament winners Chen Qingchen and Jia Yifan 21-15, 21-15 of China to book their place in the last four.

Despite entering the tournament as third seeds, Qingchen and Yifan have failed to get beyond the group stage.

However, Qingchen will be in the mixed doubles semi-finals with partner Zheng Siwei.

They will face Indonesian duo Tontowi Ahmad and Lilyana Natsir, who are through to the last four despite losing today’s match against second seeds Wang Yilu and Huang Dongping of China, 21-9, 11-21, 21-11.

Wang and Huang will face Tang Chun Man and Tse Ying Suet of Hong Kong in their semi-final.

The event is set to conclude with the finals on Sunday (December 17).
