China's Chen Long will face Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia in a repeat of the gold medal match at last year's Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro after the two players were drawn together at the Badminton World Federation World Superseries Finals in Dubai.

Chen beat Lee to clinch the Olympic title at Rio 2016 and the pair will renew their rivalry in Group A of the men's singles tournament at the Hamdan Sports Complex.

The event is due to begin tomorrow and conclude on Sunday (December 17).

The Olympic champion and Lee, top seed for the season-ending event, are joined in the group by Ng Ka Long of Hong Kong and South Korea's Son Wan-ho.

Group B features Denmark's reigning world champion and Olympic bronze medallist Viktor Axelsen, India's Kidambi Srikanth, China’s Shi Yuqi and Chinese Taipei’s Chou Tien Chen.

"I’ve never played Shi Yuqi; I’m looking forward to that," Axelsen, the defending champion, said.

Axelsen added: "There are no easy matches in this event.

"It’s different from other tournaments; you might lose early but you still have a chance to progress.

"We’re more used to a knock-out system but I enjoy playing here."

In the women's singles event, Group A has three of this year’s World Superseries winners – Japan's Akane Yamaguchi and Sayaka Sato and Olympic silver medallist Pusarla V Sindhu of India - alongside China’s He Bingjiao.

Defending champion Tai Tzu Ying of Chinese Taipei is the headline name in Group B.

Tai is due to face Sung Ji Hyun of South Korea, who she beat to claim the title last year, Ratchanok Intanon of Thailand and China's Chen Yufei.

The top two players in each group will progress to the semi-finals.
