Sweden, Hungary and the Czech Republic all qualified for the last 16 from Group B at the Women's Handball World Championships in Germany today.

Norway were the only country to have sealed passage through going into today's penultimate games but the three remaining spots available have now been secured by the trio of European countries.

It comes as defeats for Poland and Argentina mean that they can no longer gatecrash the all-important top four in the six team group.

Hungary edged the Poles 31-28 in the group's first game of the day at the EgeTrans Arena in Bietigheim-Bissingen.

Anikó Kovacsics was in good form for the Hungarians, scoring eight times.

Argentina's hopes were then ended as they lost 38-24 to Sweden to slip to a fourth defeat from four.

Six goals from Nathalie Hagman proved crucial as the Swedes ensured they went through.

The Norwegians breezed past the Czechs 34-16 to maintain their perfect start to the tournament with a fourth victory from as many games.

In Group A, the four qualifiers have also been decided with a game to spare.

Romania top the pile with a 100 per cent record, registering their fourth win out of four today by beating Angola 27-24 at the Trier Arena.

Slovenia's 28-22 win over Paraguay also sealed their spot in the next round and sent the South American outfit home.

With Angola already eliminated, the result ensured Spain and France both progressed before their match today.

The game between the two neighbours was to end as a 25-25 draw.

All four groups will conclude on a bumper day of action tomorrow.
