Commonwealth Games Wales have announced a 12-strong weightlifting squad for Gold Coast 2018.

The squad includes Christie Williams, who competed in the women's 58 kilograms event at Glasgow 2014 where she placed 13th.

Women's 69kg lifter Faye Pittman missed out four years ago having been forced to withdraw through injury on the day of the Opening Ceremony.

She will hope to have better fortunes in Gold Coast, where she will be joined in the women's team by Hannah Powell, Catrin Jones, Laura Hughes and Tayla Howe.

The men's team includes Seth Casidsid, Gareth Evans, Harry Misangyi, Joshua Parry, Jordan Sakkas and Rhodri West.

Helen Phillips, chair of the Commonwealth Games Wales Board, congratulated the squad on earning selection.

"Congratulations to all of the weightlifters who have qualified and been selected to represent Team Wales at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games," she said.

"Being chosen for Team Wales is testament to the athletes' commitment, passion and dedication, and also to the excellent support of their coaches, families and national governing bodies.

"We wish them all the very best with their training for the Gold Coast."

The 12-strong team will hope to add to Wales' strong record in the sport at the Games.

Weightlifting has provided Wales with its highest number of medals.

This includes eight gold, 12 silver and 21 bronze.

"I am delighted to see such a strong team selected for the 2018 Commonwealth Games," said Simon Roach, sports manager of Weightlifting Wales.

"The athletes have worked exceptionally hard to achieve selection.

"They are extremely proud to have the opportunity to represent their country in this forthcoming Games.

"I wish them every success in their final preparation and at Gold Coast."

All 12 lifters selected had to be in the top 15 in their weight category in the Commonwealth to be selected.

The Games will take place from April 4 to 15 next year.
